Imperial Legion Patriotic Organisation brass cap badge c1933
A rare ORIGINAL early 1930's period 'Imperial Legion cap badge'; large die-stamped brass example, based on the style of the King Edward's Horse (The King's Overseas Dominions Regiment) bearing wreaths of oak and laurel carrying the scrolls 'Canada' 'Australia' 'New Zealand' S.Africa' and 'India' 'Crowned Colonies' 'EMPIRE AND LIBERTY' but with the exception of the top crowned scroll inscribed 'IMPERIAL LEGION'. Good condition, complete with original two loop fittings. Height approx 59mm.
The Imperial Legion was formed in 1933 with a plan to recruit men and train them as an unarmed body to combat any communist force which made any move against the legitimate government of the country. It was a patriotic, non political, self supporting organisation which held itself in reserve in order to be available for Government or War Office in times of need and was at first commanded by the Commandant General Kaid Belton, O.B.E.
