1914 National Volunteer Reserve emergency force silver badge W.J.Carroll London

A rare original First World War period 'National Volunteer Reserve officer quality badge'; silver strap, the centre bearing 'NVR 1914' logo; the reverse impressed 'STERLING SILVER' and maker's details 'W.J.Carroll London'. Very good condition, complete with original buttonhole fitting.
Height approx 30mm.
Formed nationwide in 1914 in the event of invasion to provide an emergency force from trained men under 45 years old, who were unable to serve in any of his Majesty's Forces due to bad eyesight or the
necessity to provide for dependants.
