RAF No 245 Battle of Britain Northern Rhodesian Squadron badge.
A scarce original George VI period circa 1939 -1952 'RAF No 245 Battle of Britain Fighter Squadron gilt and enamel badge', depicting an eagle over the sea with Latin motto "Fugo Non Fugio" (I put to fight, I do not flee), the reverse with maker's details "H.W.Miller Ltd B'Ham.18". Very good condition, complete with original pin fittings, no damage to the enamel, gilt remain bright.

'RAF No 245 Squadron' nicknamed 'Northern Rhodesian' at the outbreak of the Second World War was operating the Bristol Blenheim aircraft, however in March 1940 they converted to the Hawker Hurricane fighter aircraft. During the Dunkirk evacuation it operated a detachment from the famous airfield RAF Hawkinge and during the Battle of Britain flew operationally. Later in the war it formed part of the 2nd Tactical Air Force, it's Hawker Typhoon aircraft operating in sweeps over occupied Europe. It also flew support operations for D-Day and in the later part of the war operated in the close support roll. In the post war years it flew the Hawker Hunter jet and the Canberra B.2s. It was finally disbanded in 1963.
