A rare original post 1937 King George VI period fine quality 'RAF No 14 Squadron Royal Air Force badge' in the form of large oxidised winged shield bearing red enamel cross; the reverse impressed '935' (Silver) Very good condition, complete with original pin fittings incorporating safety roller catch in good working order, no damage to the enamel.
Height approx 29mm.
RAF14 Squadron was originally formed in 1915 operating the BE2c and was posted to the Middle East which it served throughout the Great War. During the interwar years it remained in this theatre of operations throughout. In September 1939 it was flying the Vickers Wellesley bomber and commenced operations against the Italians in 1940. During WW2 it continued to operate in the Middle East. Surviving the post war disbandment of Squadrons the squadron operated in Germany as a fighter unit and still operates today now in the Tactical intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance role.
