PRIVATE Frederick Joseph Cross was born in Lakenham Norfolk and enlisted at Norwich, originally into the Norfolk Regiment, with the regimental number 3538. He transferred to the Yorks & Lancs Regiment and embarked to France after the 1st January 1916. He was Killed in Action during the German Spring Offensive on the 27th May 1918, whilst serving with the 7th Bn York & Lancs Regiment. He now rests at the Acheux British Cemetery France.
Son of Herbert and Mary A.Cross of 39, Winter Road, Norwich. Before volunteering for military service Frederick had been the Scoutmaster of the 17th Norwich (St. John De Sepulchre Troop) Baden Powell. Scouts.
