A very scarce original Second World War period 'ARP Clay Cross Company Voluntary Services badge'; gilt brass blue enamal title surround 'ARP' to centre on yellow enamel ground; the reverse impressed with maker's details 'Thomas Fattorini Ltd Regent St Birmingham' Very good condition, complete with original buttonhole fitting, no damage to the enamel.
Diameter 25mm.
The 'George Stephenson and Co' was founded in 1837 by the railway pioneer 'George Stephenson. The company established coal mines, ironworks, brickworks and pipe factories at Clay Cross near Chesterfield. In circa 1852 ownership changed to Sir William Jackson and it became the 'Clay Cross Company'.
