A scarce original post 1951 period 'M.V. John Ashley Stand By Crew celluloid tin button pin badge' red title surround bearing 'The Missions To Seamen' white flying angel on a blue background flag to centre. Very good condition, complete with original pin fitting, no signs of any foxing.

The 'Motor Vessel John Ashley' was a former fishing vessel built in 1946 and changed to a Mission Ship in 1951. The launches were used to deliver reading material and personnel to allow the holding of services at lighthouses or on-board lightships. it was named after the Reverend John Ashley, an Anglican clergyman responsible for the establishment of the Bristol Mission in 1837.
The Missions To Seamen' name changed to the 'Mission to Seafarers' in 2000.
