S.S. Ascania Cunard Shipping Line ships bouy pin badge circa 1911 - 1918

A very rare origiinal 1911 to 1918 short lived early period 'S.S.Ascania Ocean liner gilt and enamel pin badge' in the form of a white enamel bouy, the Cunard Line company enamelled flag mounted to the centre and applied to a triangular pin bar. Very good condition, complete with original pin fittings, actual pin re-affixed at sometime in its life, no stress marks or enamel loss.
Diameter approx 24mm.
S.S. Ascania' was launched in 1911, she ran aground 20 nautical miles east of Cape Ray, Newfoundland in the Breton Strait on 13 June 1918 while she was travelling from Liverpool to Montreal, Canada. All people on board were rescued from the stricken vessel by a patrol boat but the ship was declared a total loss and abandoned as it broke apart and sank in the shallow waters.
