German Doodlebug Flying Bomb copper penny fundraising badge
A rare original Second World War 1944 -1945 late war period V-1 flying bomb badge, skillfully made from a copper pennies in the form of a 'Doodlebug' and sold to raise funds. Good condition, with an applied brass safety pin fitting with traces of solder.
Size approx 38 x 15mm.
The V-1 flying bomb nicknamed the 'Doodlebug' was a pilotless jet-propelled German weapon used in World War II from June 1944 to March 1945, that targeted London and other cities causing significant civilian casualties and terror. It was notoriously recognized by its buzzing engine noise and when the engine cut out it indicated a steep dive to impact.
