A scarce original Second World War period British made example, in the form of a large die-cast oxidised sliver plated badge, depicting an embossed map of Czechoslovakia superimposed over Prague Castle and shield bearing the Czechoslovak lion and carrying the French 'Cross of Lorraine', the base enclosed by a curved border scroll stating 'ITS MY LAND ALL CZECHS COUNTRY'; the reverse impressed with maker's details 'H.W.Miller Ltd B'Ham 18' Very good condition, complete with original pin fittings and housed in its original blue card presentation case with printed details on silk inside lid 'In memory of a Czechoslovak soldier Great Britain 1941'. Accompanied by ink written details see photograph.
Attributed to Pilot Officer Jerzy Zaleski who was killed when giving instruction to Trainee Pilot Sergeant Eugeniusz R Kajor, both members of the Polish Air Force.
On the 19th September 1941 whilst flying in an Airspeed Oxford of 14 Service Flying Training School out of RAF Lyneham in Wilshire, flying at low level the aircraft hit high voltage power cables near Potterne and crashed killing both crew members. Jerzy Zaleski was 22 years old and now rests in St. Michael Church Lyneham.
