Cunard Steamship Co. R.M.S. Andania 1930 winning lifeboat crew member prize medal
A scarce original 1930's period 'The Cunard Steamship Company Limited Medal' in the form of an embossed lifebelt the centre depicticting a crowned rampant lion holding a globe; the reverse inscribed "PRESENTED TO J.Mc. Keand MEMBER OF THE WINNING LIFEBOAT CREW 3 Nov 1930 R.M.S. ANDANIA"; the medal impressed with Birmingham silver hallmarks for 1930 and maker's details 'E&C' (Elkington & Co). Very good condition, complete with original suspension ring.
Diameter approx 25mm.
RMS Andania was a ocean liner launched in 1921, on the 15 June 1940 she was hit by a torpedo from the 'German Submarine UA' and sunk.
