British Red Cross Society Medical Officer technical badge 858 Dr. W.P. PENHALE Stafford

A rare original circa First World War period medal issue to a Doctor working for the 'County of Stafford British Red Cross Society' Technical Branch' bearing 'Medical Officer' bar, the reverse inscribed '838 Dr. W.P. PENHALE', together with his County of Stafford badge also inscribed '10900 Dr. W.P. PENHALE'. Very good condition, complete with original silk ribbon, title bar and gilt buckle suspension with pin fittings, minor bruise to Stafford suspension bar, otherwise an excellent example.
Overall Length approx 85mm.
Attributed to Doctor William Percival Penhale who was born in 1891 and qualified in 1913. He was resident for many years at Moore House West Bromwich. He died in 1951.
The British Red Cross Society Technical badges were instituted in 1914 and were eligible to members of the Voluntary Aid Detachments with professional qualifications, they were discontinued in the mid 1960's.
