A very rare ORIGINAL Second World War period 'Saint Pauls Watch fine quality gilt lapel badge' designed by sculptor Laurence Turner, for the 280 or so, volunteer watchers who protected St Paul's Cathedral from fire damage throughout the Second World War. Very good condition, complete with original buttonhole fitting, this example finely engraved with the date '1943' to reverse.
Height approx 32mm.
The volunteer fire watchers who protected St Paul's Cathedral in London, consisted of men and women from all walks of life, including architects who patrolled the cathedral to protect it from damage. Around 280 volunteers served in the 'Saint Paul's Watch' during the war.
