A scarce original pre 1988 period 'Hanlon Ambulance Dublin Road Longford Eirewell made leather key fob, bearing chromium plated and enamel badge displaying a shamrock; the reverse impressed with maker's details 'CAXTON OF KEW SURREY'. Very good condition, complete with split ring fitting.

Hanlon Ambulances, a company that began as a family business on Dublin Road in Longford, Ireland, rose to prominence in the 1960s and 70s as a major manufacturer of ambulances, both for the British NHS and for export. The company was founded by Noel Hanlon, who expanded the business from a family garage into a factory employing 300 people. While initially successful, Hanlon Ambulances eventually closed in 1988 after a dispute with trade unions.
