Hanlon Ambulances, a company that began as a family business on Dublin Road in Longford, Ireland, rose to prominence in the 1960s and 70s as a major manufacturer of ambulances, both for the British NHS and for export. The company was founded by Noel Hanlon, who expanded the business from a family garage into a factory employing 300 people. While initially successful, Hanlon Ambulances eventually closed in 1988 after a dispute with trade unions.
