SS Duchess of York Canadian Pacific Line gilt and enamel ships wheel badge

A scarce original circa 1930's period 'S.S.Duchess of York shipping line pin badge'; in the form of a white enamel ships wheel mounted to the centre the Canadian Pacific Steamships Ltd shipping line company red and white chequered flag. Good condition, complete with original pin fittings, enamel intact very minor hairline to wheel and defect to flag, gilt finish remains bright.
Diameter approx 27mm.
The 'S.S.Duchess of York was built for the 'Canadian Pacific Steamships Ltd' by 'John Brown & Co Ltd of Clydebank' and was launched in 1928. She was requisitioned in 1940 and used to transport troops, German prisoners of war and evacuee children. In 1943 she was was hit by bombs while off the Spanish coast and caught fire and was abandoned with the loss of 27 lives and subsequently torpedoed and sunk by 'HMS Douglas' so as not to attract enemy submarines to the area.
