A scarce original wartime issue Sevenoaks volunteer firemans 'Auxiliary Fire Service home front cloth badge'; large red silk embroidered 'AFS SEVENOAKS' on black felt wool backing, this been worn on the breast of the tunic uniform, the reverse with black paper hessian lining. Good condition, colours remain bright, a little frayed around the edge.
Height approx 97mm.
The 'Auxiliary Fire Service' AFS was first formed in 1938. In 1941 the 'Auxiliary Fire Service' and the local authority fire brigades were amalgamated to become the 'National Fire Service'.
