A scarce original circa 1928 period 'Pick Up Glass Pick Up Paper Society badge' in the form of a small gilt medallion bearing an embossed 'Pug dog head to the centre'; the reverse inpressed with early maker's details 'Fattorini & Sons Ltd Bradford House Birmingham' (an address format used between 1928 and 1932). Very good condition, complete with original suspension ring.
Diameter 23mm.
Founded by Chelford, Cheshire Women's Institute in 1928. Lady Dixon of Chelford W.I said that the council recommends that the Institute should endeavour to influence public opinion by joining the 'Pick Up Glass, Pick Up Paper Society' because of the appalling amount of litter all over the country. Each member joining received a badge and three cards of rules for 2d.
