A rare original Second World War period 'Air Transport Auxiliary civilian pilot ATA badge attributed to First Officer John Dawson Hieron Redford of Nottinghamshire who joined the ATA on the 17th June 1942 as an operational Pilot and remained with the service until November 1945. He had qualified as a private pilot after training at the Tollerton Aero Club on the 10th March 1937 on a DH Major Moth aircraft. In the post war years he continued to fly out of Tollerton as an aerial photographer.
Very good condition, numbered 'B77', complete with original pin fittings incorporating safety roller catch in good working order, no stress marks or damage to the enamel and housed in its original presentation case, together with his 1926 National Saving Certificates booklet, bearing ink name and address.

Air Transport Auxiliary’s headquarters was at White Waltham airfield near Maidenhead from February 1940 until 30th November 1945.
