A scarce original wartime issue Hertford volunteer firemans 'Auxiliary Fire Service home front cloth badge'; large red silk embroidered 'AFS LUTON' on black felt wool backing, this been worn on the breast of the tunic uniform, the reverse with partial black paper lining. Good condition, colours remain bright.
Height approx 95mm.
The 'Auxiliary Fire Service' AFS was first formed in 1938. In 1941 the 'Auxiliary Fire Service' and the local authority fire brigades were amalgamated to become the 'National Fire Service'.
