A rare original Second World War period 'Clifton Cinemas Spitfire' home front fund for the much needed fighter aircraft for the Royal Air Force, in the form of a blue celluloid tin button badge depicting spitfire plane within white title surround Very good condition, complete with original pin fitting, colours remains bright, an excellent example. Diameter 22mm. The Clifton Cinema was opened in January 1937, during the Second World War the chairman of Clifton Cinemas organised a collection by a relatively small organisation to raise money for the building of a Spitfire.Through their enormous achievement £5,000 was collected and the plane built and handed over to the Royal Air Force proudly bearing the name ‘Clifton Cinemas Spitfire’. The chairman of Clifton Cinemas 'Sir Sidney Swift' was knighted in 1947.
