RNMWS Royal Naval Mine Watching Service lapel badge
A good original post 1952 cold war period 'Royal Naval Mine Watching Service home front lapel badge'; gilt and enamel with applied central enamel disc depicting an exploding mine; the reverse impressed with maker's details 'J.R.Gaunt London'. Very good condition, original buttonhole fitting, no damage to the enamel, gilt finish remains bright, minimal service wear.
Height 30mm.
R.N.M.W.S was formed in 1952 and manned by civilians who were responsible for spotting mines dropped by enemy aircraft on major waterway, later to become Royal Naval Auxiliary Service R.N.X.S in 1963.
