A rare original Second World War period historically important 'WW2 Newton Chambers & Co Ltd ARP Air Raid Precaution home front warden badge'; chromium plated circular example inlaid with green and white enamel, the reverse impressed with maker's details 'Thomas Fattorini Ltd Regent St Birmingham'. Fair condition, complete with original buttonhole lapel fitting, enamel loss and service wear. Diameter approx 22mm.
In 1939 Newton Chambers & Co.Ltd Thorncliffe works came under the control of the Admiralty. A new workshop was constructed at Warren Lane Sheffield, a short distance away from the Thorncliffe works, which was used to build army vehicles and became the largest manufacturer of Churchill tanks for the war effort.
