French Vichy Fascist Francisque Gallique decoration award badge
A scarce original circa 1941 to 1945 period 'French Vichy Fascist lapel badge'; small gilt double headed axe inlaid with red, white and blue enamels, the shaft comprising a Marshal’s baton of blue enamel and bearing 10 gilt stars; the reverse impressed with maker's details 'A.Augis 28 Mtee St Barthelemy Lyon' to both front and lapel fitting. Very good condition, no damage to the enamel. Height 26mm. Created on 26th May 1941 by the Vichy authorities to rank as the highest national award on a par with the Legion of Honour. It could be worn on both military uniform or civilian dress and was awarded for having performed brilliant deeds of military or civic service, or have shown active attachment to the person and work of the Marshal etc.
