WHD Womens Home Defence HG auxiliaries badge
A scarce original circa 1941 to 1944 Second World War period 'Women's Home Defence Home Guard auxiliaries badge', gilt shield inlaid with brown enamel with yellow border, crossed rifles to the centre 'WHD' between the barrels, pistol below; the reverse impressed with maker's details 'Collins London'. Very good condition, complete with original pin fittings, no damage to the enamel, gilt finish remains bright. Height 30mm. Started in 1941 by Dr Edith Summerskill Labour MP for Fulham West London. Women recruits learned basic weapon training and military skills. Disbanded in 1944.
