Baden Powell Trained Army Scouts worsted cloth tunic sleeve trade badge
A rare original circa 1905 -1921 large pattern fleur-de-lys embroidered cloth sleeve badge, chosen by Colonel Baden Powell when he introduced scouting in the Army whilst out in South Africa commanding the 5th Dragoon Guards circa 1897. The first official mention traced is in Army Order of 1905. This example was worn by Army Scouts 1st Class. Very good condition. Height approx 80mm.
Robert Baden-Powell served in the British Army from 1876 until 1910 when he retired and formed 'The Scout Association' for boys.
The 'Baden Powell Trained Army Scouts' badge was abolished in 1921.
