St John Ambulance Brigade cap badge, St Johns Gate London

A scarce original early issue 'St John Ambulance Brigade cap badge'; large die-stamped white metal example, the central circlet inscribed 'St John Ambulance Association'; the reverse bearing an applied tablet 'REGISTERED AT ST JOHN GATE LONDON'. Very good condition, complete with original two loop fittings and split pin.
Size approx 48 x 35mm.
'The St John Ambulance Association' was founded in 1877 to provide first aid training.
In 1887 'The St John Ambulance Brigade' was founded to provide uniformed medics at public events.
'The St John Ambulance Brigade' and 'The St John Ambulance Association' merged in 1968 to form the 'St John Ambulance'.
