'Minera Silica Quarries Ltd' North Wales On National Service numbered badge
A rare original circa 1940 period historically interesting Welsh 'Minera Silica Quarries Ltd lapel badge'; small chromium plated example, bearing red enamel title surround. On National Service to centre, impressed with very low official issue number '8'. Good condition, complete with original buttonhole fitting, no enamel loss, but has received a small ding to lower left edge. Diameter 22mm. In 1926 the Brymbo Silica Quarries who worked the nearby Tir Celyn Quarry merged with the Roberts & Maginnis operation to form the Minera Silica Quarries Ltd.
'National Service' was established in 1939 to promote all forms of service for the war effort. Many employers introduced their own National Services badges to denote war service. These served to indicate that the person employed was working in the national interest and as a form of protection against been called a military service dodger.
