S.S. Nubia P&O shipping line ships wheel badge 1895 to 1915

A rare original circa 1902 period 'SS Nubia ships wheel gilt and enamel souvenir pin brooch', displaying the Peninsular & Oriental Steam Navigation Company flag to the centre: the reverse impressed with 'Rd 384025' a Registration, Design and Patent for the year 1902. Good condition, complete with original pin fittings, enamel intact but with minor surface scratches, gilt finish remains bright.
Diameter approx 31mm.
During the Boer War 'S.S. Nubia' was requisitioned and used as a Hospital Ship for the transportation of wounded soldiers She was painted white with Red Cross emblems and name was changed to 'H.S. Nubia'.
