Corps of Guides Suffolk officially numbered home front badge
A rare original pre-war period 'Suffolk Corps of Guides home front lapel badge'; large green enamel title surround, gilt two tower castle to voided centre; the reverse impressed with maker's details 'Bliiss Bros Birmingham', official low issue number '152'. Very good condition, complete with original buttonhole lapel fitting, no damage to the enamel. Diameter 32mm.
The Corps of Guides were formed just prior to the First World War from farmers and local people familiar with the countryside, so in the event of an invasion they could guide bodies of troops around the country, when all recognisable road signs had been taken down.
