Primrose League Honorary Knight of the league badge with Founder pin bar
A good original post 1886 'Primrose League Knight's Full Dress gilt badge' the reverse with lightly stamped maker's details 'T & JB' (T & J Bragg Ltd Birmingham) and 'Rd 34410' a registered, design and patent number for 1898 and accompanied by a scarce Founder yellow enamel pin bar. Very good condition, complete with original primrose colour silk ribbon with violet borders and suspension bar with single pin fitting.
Overall height of badge approx 81mm.
In 1883 Lord Randolph Churchill father of Winston Churchill, Sir Henry Drummond Wolff, Sir Alfred Slade and Sir John Gorst formed this Conservative backed league to promote not only the party also National Patriotism and the unity of the British Empire. The motto of the League became Imperium et Libertas", this taken from the famous speech delivered by Benjamin Disraeli the Earl of Beaconsfield in 1879.
