WW2 Auxiliary Fire Service AFS Featherstone uniform breast badge Wakefield
A scarce original wartime issue Yorkshire volunteer firemans 'Auxiliary Fire Service home front cloth badge'; large red silk embroidered 'AFS Featherstone' on black felt wool backing, this been worn on the breast of the tunic uniform, the reverse with cream hessian lining. Good condition, colours remain bright.
Height approx 97mm.
The 'Auxiliary Fire Service' AFS was first formed in 1938. In 1941 the 'Auxiliary Fire Service' and the local authority fire brigades were amalgamated to become the 'National Fire Service'.
