WW2 Local Defence Volunteers LDV numbered parachute badge

A rare original circa 1940 wartime period 'Local Defence Volunteers home front lapel badge' in the form of a large blue and white enamel parachute bearing the letters 'L.D.V' over an 'AV' monogram, very similar to 'Vickers Armstrong' interwoven letters but in a different configuration, with low issue number '523' below. Very good condition, complete with original lapel fitting, no damage to the enamel.
Height 26mm.
After the German forces invaded Holland and Belgium on the 10th May 1940 an appeal was made on the 14th May by Anthony Eden for men between the age of seventeen and sixty-five to join a new force known as the 'Local Defence Volunteers'. After only seventy days of existence on the 23rd July 1940 the name was changed to the 'Home Guard'.
