Association of Highland Societies (1939) War Comforts Edinburgh Badge
A very scarce original Second World War period home front pin badge in the form of a chromium plated oblong, inlaid with green enamel and inscribed 'Association of Highland Societies (1939) War Comforts Edinburgh' and bearing a Celtic Symbol' to the centre; the reverse impressed with maker's details 'Thomas Fattorini Ltd Regent St. Birmingham'. Very good condition, complete with original pin fittings, no damage to the enamel.
Size approx 29 x 21mm.
The Association of Highland Societies of Edinburgh was instituted at the outset of the war to provide comforts for Highlanders on service. They provided knitted garment, tobacco, boots and even sets of bagpipes to the Royal Navy, Merchant Navy, Royal Air Force and Prisononers of War.
