Boer War 1900 SPION KOP battle shrapnel souvenir pin badge

A rare original unique artefact from the 'Boer War 1900 Spion Kop battle', in the form of a piece shrapnel from a copper shell head driveband mounted with a gold coloured shieldl inscribed 'SPION KOP'. Very good condition, complete with period pin fittings, actual pin a period replacement.
Width approx 42mm.
Height approx 14mm.
The Battle of SPION KOP was fought between the 23rd and 24th January 1900. The British Forces under the Command of General Sir Redvers Buller VC where attempting to relieve the Boer siege of Ladysmith,
