Southern Railway marine department bullion cap badge
A rare original circa 1930's period 'Southern Railway cloth cap badge' bearing the shipping line company houseflag, a red embroidered cross on blue silk ribbed backing with 'S R' letters in opposite corners, within a gold wire wreath surround, the reverse with waxed paper lined hessian backing. Good condition, minor service wear and wire defects.
Height approx 51mm.
'Southern Railway' came into operation in 1923. They handed over their ships, hotels and some 1,780 locomotives to the newly formed Southern Region arm of the Nationalised British Railways in 1948.
