A scarce original Second World War wartime period 'English Electric East Works Aircraft manufacturing company identification war workers badge'; gilt metal example in the form of a stylized wing inlaid with blue enamel inscribed 'EAST WORKS', the central disc bearing early style 'EE' logo and official issue number '68142'. Very good condition, complete with original buttonhole lapel fitting, no damage to the enamel, gilt finish remains bright.

The 'English Electric East Works' was based on the Strand Road Preston and was engaged in aircraft manufacture. During the Second World War it produced the 'Handley Page Hampden' and 'Halifax Bombers'. In the post war years the factory went on to work with the 'Canberra bomber' and the 'Mach2' fighter aircraft 'The Lightning'.
