WW1 Colonial Government Service on war service numbered badge
A scarce original First World War period Colonial Government Service identification badge'; blue enamel gilt title circlet, bearing embossed 'GRI Crowned cypher' (George Rex Imperator) to centre on seeded ground, the reverse impressed with official issue number '1998'. Very good condition, complete with original buttonhole lapel fitting, no stress marks or damage to the enamel.
Diameter approx 29mm.
The Colonial Government Service badge was worn, amongst others, by employees on the Indian Government Railways in the First World War as a form of identity and to fulfill the role of a National Service badge.
