Royal Aircraft Establishment RAE Athletic Club badge

A scarce original circa 1920's period 'Royal Aircraft Establishment Athletic Club badge'; blue enamel gilt title circlet surmounted by a Crowned wing, the central disc depicting an embossed biplane; the reverse with maker's details 'J.Daffern & Co' (Joseph Daffern & Co Hatton Garden London). Very good condition, complete with original buttonhole lapel fitting, enamel with service wear to crown, gilt finish remains bright.
Height 32mm.

Formed in 1908 as the H.M. Balloon Factory, 1911 renamed the Royal Aircraft Factory, later to become the Royal Aircraft Establishment in 1918 and the Royal Aerospace Establishment in 1988.
