Air League of the British Empire supporters badge
A scarce original circa 1920's period 'Air League of the British Empire' gentleman's lapel badge; large gilt blue enamel horseshoe scroll surmounted by an eagle on globe bearing the Latin motto 'In Coelo Imperium' (In heaven control); the reverse impressed with early maker's details 'Fattorini & Sons Bradford'. Very good condition, complete with original buttonhole fitting, no damage to the enamel.
Height 29mm.
Air League of the British Empire was established in 1909 and maintained by public subscription, with its monthly magazine 'Air Review' it sought to spread a knowledge of flying and the development of British aviation amongst its readers, it helped set up the Air Cadet Defence Corps in 1938, later renamed the Air Training Corps in 1941.
