Saint Paul's Watch volunteer fire watcher badge
A very rare ORIGINAL Second World War period 'St Pauls Watch gilt badge' the reverse embossed with the date '1939' and designed by sculptor Laurence Turner, for the 280 or so, volunteer watchers who protected St Paul's Cathedral from fire damage throughout the Second World War. Very good condition, original lapel fitting replaced with pin fittings.
Height approx 32mm.
The volunteer fire watchers who protected St Paul's Cathedral in London, consisted of men and women from all walks of life, including architects who patrolled the cathedral to protect it from damage. Around 280 volunteers served in the 'Saint Paul's Watch' during the war.
