A scarce original Second World War period 'ARP Clay Cross Company air raid precautions pin badge'; small gilt brass triangle inlaid with green enamal, the centre with recessed crowned 'A.R.P' logo, title below 'CLAY CROSS "J" the reverse impressed with maker's details 'Birmingham Medal Co' Very good condition, complete with original pin fittings, no damage to the enamel, tiny line of black on underglaze.
Height 22mm.
The 'George Stephenson and Co' was foundedin 1837 by the railway pioneer 'George Stephenson. The company established coal mines, ironworks, brickworks and pipe factories at Clay Cross near Chesterfield. In circa 1852 ownership changed to Sir William Jackson and it became the 'Clay Cross Company'.
