ARP Womens Voluntary Services WVS badge
A good original circa 1938 to February 1939 period 'ARP Women's Voluntary Services pin badge'; chromium plated example inlaid with red enamel, the reverse impressed with maker's details 'H.B.Sale B'Ham'. Very good clean condition, complete with original pin fittings, no damage to the enamel.

The 'ARP Women's Voluntary Services' for Air Raid Precautions was established in 1938 to prepare for the onset of war. By February 1939 the title was amended to 'Women's Voluntary Services for Civil Defence'
They assisted during the 1939 evacuation and eventually involved themselves in most aspects of the home front war effort.
