WW1 British Sportsmen's Ambulance Fund 1917 badge Birmingham branch
A scarce original First World War period '1917 British Sportsmens Ambulance Fund 1917 Birmingham Branch pin badge'; gilt brass blue enamel title circlet, the centre bearing the crest from the 'City of Birmingham Coat of Arms' with motto 'FORWARD' in red, white and blue enamel on seeded ground. Very good condition, complete with original pin fittings, no stress marks or damage to the enamel, gilt finish remains bright.

The 'British Sportsmen's Ambulance Fund' was set up in 1916 by the 'National Sporting Club', the Honorary Secretary Mr A.F. Bettinson confirmed the aims of the fund was provide a fleet of ambulances at a cost of £400 each to the fighting forces being a gift from the British sporting community. He called upon all sportsmen to not only to donate money, but to use their influence to make known the object of the fund which was based at the 'National Sporting Club. Covent Garden, London'.
