WW2 Food Leader shopping basket home front badge

A scarce original Second World War period gilt metal badge, inlaid with green, white and brown enamelling, depicting a housewives full shopping basket inscribed with 'Food Leader' title below. Very good condition, complete with original pin fittings, no stress marks or damage to the enamel.
Height 23mm.

The Food Leader scheme originated with the 'WVS' in Birmigham and became a national scheme of the Ministry of Food around 1944 to give advice to housewives on food saving tips as the shortage and rationing took hold.
