A scarce original First World War period 'Bedford Borough Recreation Committee For The Troops pin badge'; gilt example enamelled in patriotic red, white and blue colours; the reverse impressed with maker's details 'Thomas Fattorini Bolton'. Very good condition, complete with original pin fittings, no damage to the enamel, gilt finish remains bright.

The Bedford Borough Recreation Committee for the Troops was formed by the Mayor of Bedford during the First World War and was made up predominantly of female volunteers, who arranged event such as the Highland Games and Hogmany for the Highland Division and entertainment for all the troops who passed through Bedford in the war years. The following is an extract that appeared in the Bedfordshire Times and Independent newspaper on Friday 20 December 1918:
