WW1 Leyland Motors Ltd O.H.M.S war service badge

A rare original First World War period 'Leyland Motors Ltd. On His Majesty's Service identification lapel badge'; large crowned gilt oval, bearing heavily empossed red enamel 'LEYLAND' scroll, O.H.M.S across the centre with 'S.S.' plaque below; the reverse impressed with maker's details 'Thomas Fattorini Bolton'. Good condition, complete with original buttonhole fitting, gilt finish remains bright, small chip to lower plaque, otherwise a very hansome example, the like of which I have never seen before.
Height 37mm.

In 1914 'Leyland Motors Ltd' (buses, cars, trucks) was formed as a limited company. During the Great War they 'Did Their Bit' for the war effort and produced lots of vehicles for the War Office.
