National Gas Engine Co Ltd 1915 on war service badge
A rare original First World War period 'National Gas Engine Company Ltd numbered identification badge'; blue enamel title surround 'ON WAR SERVICE 1915' 'NGS' monogram to seeded centre, the reverse impressed in relief 'THE PROPERTY OF THE NATIONAL GAS ENGINE Co.Ltd.' and stamped with official low issue number '776'. Very good condition, complete with original buttonhole lapel fitting, no damage to the enamel.

'The National Gas Engine Company' was founded in 1890 by Henry M. Bickerton at Wellington Works, Ashton-under-Lyne, Lancashire. They manufactured engines to run on town gas. In 1932 it became the 'National Gas and Oil Engine Company.
