WW2 Womens Emergency Land Corps WELC home front badge

A rare original Second World War period 'Women's Emergency Land Corps home front badge'; gilt brass shield inlaid with green enamel depicting a crossed pitchfork and hay rake with the letters 'WELC' placed within the cross. Very good condition, complete with original pin fittings, no stress marks or damage to the enamel, gilt finish remains bright.
Height 25mm.

The wartime organization 'Women's Emergency Land Corps' were formed from women volunteers who would have to work a minimum of forty eight hours on the farm land. Recruits included housewives, shop assistants and women in various other occupations.
