Boer War 1900 Tugela Heights Battle shrapnel souvenir pin badge
A rare original unique artefact from the 'Boer War 1900 Tugela Heights battle', in the form of a piece shrapnel from a copper shell head driveband mounted with a silver coloured scroll inscribed 'TUGELA'. Contained in a period cardboard box with details printed on the lid 'Spink & Son Ltd. 17 & 18 Piccadilly. W. Est 1772.' an address used between 1903 and circa 1930. Very good condition, complete with period pin fittings,
The Battle of Tugela Heights was a series of engagements fought between the 14th February and 27th February 1900. The British Forces under the Command of General Sir Redvers Buller where pushing forward to lift the Boer siege of Ladysmith, Louis Botha’s Boer Army was forced to withdrew allowing British cavalry to enter Ladysmith on the 28th February thus ending the siege.
