WW1 Australian Imperial Force Female Relatives Badge
A scarce original First World War period 'Female Relatives Badge' issued by the Department of Defence to the closest female relative usually wives or mothers of men serving overseas in the Australian Imperial Force' in the form of a King George V Crowned blue enamel oval title inscribed 'ISSUED BY DEPT OF DEFENCE TO WOMEN OF AUSTRALIA' with 'AIF' initials to voided centre, with additional scoll below inscibed 'FOR DUTY DONE'; the reverse impressed 'STG SIL' (Sterling Silver), maker's details Stokes & Sons Melbourne' and official issue number '163734'. Very good condition, complete with original pin fittings, no stress marks or damage to the enamel.
